    • Gardner S. "Benny" Benscoter, 80, of Westphalia died April 9 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. He was born May 26, 1923, in Council Bluffs to Elmer and Tessie (Shelby) Benscoter. He previously lived in Irwin and in Council Bluffs. He worked for Mortensen Grocery Store in his early years. He delivered bread for Wonder Bread for three years and for Interstate Bakery (Butternut Bread Co.) for 35 years before retiring in May 1983. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Mr. Benscoter and his wife, Alice (Kmezich), were married 41 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Beulah, a brother, Ora Lee Benscoter, and his first wife, Eleanor Benscoter in 1960. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include son Danny Benscoter and wife, Sandy, of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; two grandsons, Brian and Brent Benscoter; and two great-grandchildren, Brennan and Whitney Benscoter. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Crowley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a luncheon following at the American Legion Club. Memorials may be offered to a charity of the donor's choice.
