    • Robert Warren Statler, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at a Tacoma hospital. Mr. Statler was born January 26, 1921 to John C. and Charlotte Mae (Benscoter) Statler in Clareton, Wyoming, where he was also raised.In 1942 he joined the Marines, serving in WWII until 1945. Mr. Statler moved to Thurston County in 1968. On October 6, 1973 in Yelm, he married Viola Fransen, who survives.He was a carpenter during most of his working life. He enjoyed music, and played the guitar and organ. Fishing, gardening, and golf were also among his interests.In addition to his wife, Mr. Statler is survived by 3 daughters, Lynda Rich, Cheryl Smith, and Diane Stewart; 2 stepchildren, Steve Fransen and Deborah Clough; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; 1 brother, Dale Statler; and 2 sisters, Grace Davis and Verna De Villenue. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 grandson, Jared.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at the Masonic Center, 455 North Street S.E., Tumwater. Those who wish may pay their respects on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the service time. A graveside committal service will follow at Olympic Memorial Gardens.
