    • Gerard Grogan, 79, of Keokuk, passed away at 6:20 AM Sunday, July 17, 2016, at his home.

      Gerard was born December 30, 1936, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of John and Hazel Collins Grogan. He was united in marriage to Geraldene Hines in October, 1963, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Keokuk.

      Gerard lived most of his life in Keokuk with the exception of six years spent in Iowa City, Iowa. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard for six years. He was employed as warehouse supervisor for Hubinger Company, H.J.Heinz, and Roquette America until his retirement in 1997 after 42 years of service. On December 30, 1997, he received his best birthday present, his only grandson, Riley Thomas Grogan.

      Gerard was a member of The Church of All Saints and The Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight for two terms, and Cardinal Stritch Boosters. He loved basketball and was an all-stater while in high school. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Bradley University. Gerard was an avid Cardinal Stritch, St. Louis Cardinals, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He exemplified unconditional love, not only with his immediate family but also with his extended family and his friends.

      Gerard is survived by his wife, Geraldene of Keokuk; two sons, Thomas Gerard Grogan and Patrick Martin Grogan of Keokuk; grandchildren, Kaysee Jo Grogan, Riley Thomas Grogan; daughter-in-law Deborah Ann Grogan of Danville, Iowa; five brothers and sisters, Lillian (Joseph) Kraus, Katherine Vollers, John W. (Diana) Grogan, Mary Susan (Keith) Fink, and James Michael (Judy) Grogan; sister-in-law, Darlene Humes; and many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends

      He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ellen Marie Grogan and Jean Louise Ketterer; a brother, Thomas Joseph Grogan; sister-in-law Willa Mae Kearns; and five brothers-in-law, Alfred Humes, William Hines, Donald Kearns, Jack Ketterer, and Robert Vollers.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at The Church of All Saints with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert Street. A Christian Vigil service will be at 8:00 PM Tuesday.

      Memorials are suggested to City of Christmas or to The Church of All Saints.
