Notes - Mr. Oliver Hurley, age 78, of Ponce De Leon, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, with his loving wife by his side. He was born March 25, 1933 in Ponce De Leon to William Monroe and Ola Gomillion Hurley. Mr. Hurley was a resident of Ponce De Leon. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was very well read in his Bible. He worked at Hodges Cash & Carry for many years before retiring. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman having spent many hours on the Choctawhatchee River. He passed his legacy on to his children. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces serving his country in the United States Army. Mr. Hurley is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ethylene Hare, Kaylene Dalton and Hazel Howell. Mr. Hurley is survived by his loving wife Lois Hurley of 55 years; his children Donald Hurley and wife Janice Hurley of Ponce De Leon, Gayle Pyle and husband Donnie of DeFuniak Springs, Janet Dyess and husband Rick of Ft. Walton Beach, and Andrew Hurley and wife Terri of Enterprise, AL; 3 grandchildren Nicole, Amanda and Charlee; 7 great grandchildren Abbie, Warren, Grayson, Gage, Ryan, Tyler and Adam. A time of Visitation will be held 1:00~2:00 PM, Friday, December 23, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church; 55 County Road C181, Ponce De Leon, Florida 32455. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2011, at Pleasants Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Lonnie Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Bay Cemetery. Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at 55 County Road 181, Ponce De Leon, Florida 32455. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Nicky Olgesby, Jeff Olgesby, Randy Gilley, Keith Eldridge, Ken Johnson and Brandon McCullers. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Spence and Gene Lollie.
